Builder's Day: celebrating the masters who build the future
Every second Sunday in August, Kazakhstan celebrates one of the most important professional holidays - Builder's Day. This day has become a symbol of respect and recognition for the people who, with their hands, knowledge and professionalism, create the modern world by constructing buildings and structures that serve our country.
"First of all, I would like to express my special gratitude to the Head of State for entrusting the implementation of such a large-scale initiative as the national pilot project "Comfortable School". The project has no analogues in the world. In three years, 369 modern schools have been built in no other state. This is a great contribution to our future, which will serve the country for many generations to come. We are working hard for the sake of our children, so that they can learn with pride in modern and comfortable conditions, and we are giving our teachers the latest tools so that they can lovingly cultivate the best minds that will serve the bright future of Kazakhstan", - said Maylen Aimanbetov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of JSC "Samruk-Kazyna Construction".
The industry is actively developing, introducing modern technologies and innovative solutions. The government and private companies are investing in infrastructure development, which not only improves the quality of life of citizens, but also creates new jobs. One of the most striking initiatives was a national pilot project in the field of education called "Comfortable School", which created about 50,000 temporary jobs (during the construction period) and 40,000 permanent jobs (after the schools were put into operation).
The initiative focuses not only on creating comfortable and safe educational facilities, but also on setting new standards in the industry that will help raise the level of professional staff in the long term. During the implementation of the project, new mechanisms of the construction industry will be tested, the most advanced technologies will be introduced, such as EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) contracts and the E-Qurylys system integrated with Bitrix, which will create a solid foundation for the entire modern construction industry in Kazakhstan. In parallel, Samruk-Kazyna Construction intends to implement the next stage of Building Information Modelling (BIM) technology, which is currently in the design phase.
It is worth noting that the introduction of E-Qurylys has marked the beginning of a completely different development path for the construction sector. The launch of the platform has eliminated paperwork, accelerated the flow of documents, achieved full transparency of financial movements and construction quality assessment. For example, if the previous work contracts were signed on paper and took at least a week, now it takes 1-2 days.
However, it should be recognized that today's construction industry requires a radical change. All the technological solutions used, the approach of various professional groups to design issues, the current regulations, the acute shortage of personnel and other aspects are not in line with the requirements of the times, and in some places are even in conflict with them. In addition, the level of construction culture in general and the professionalism of design firms in comparison with world leaders leaves much to be desired. However, this is what we and the future specialists of the industry must work on: finding non-standard and effective solutions for the development of the construction sector as a locomotive of the economy.
"This year we are celebrating a historic milestone, the 15th anniversary of Samruk-Kazyna Construction. Having started our journey with the implementation of an anti-crisis program aimed at improving the housing conditions of the population, we have earned the image of a company that is trusted with the implementation of such national pilot projects as 'Comfortable School'. We have been a pioneer in many sectors of the country's construction industry, investing in the construction of factories, increasing the share of domestic production instead of imports; automating internal business processes by introducing advanced technologies - from the preparation of project documentation to the construction of objects "under key". I am convinced that all these measures will contribute not only to the development of the construction sector, but also to stable economic growth", - said Maulen Aimanbetov.
Competent specialists are an integral part of a successful construction industry. Qualified builders and experienced managers ensure high quality of project implementation, its timely completion and compliance with technical standards and norms. Engineers, architects, designers and other workers all contribute to the implementation of complex and large-scale projects. In order to raise the prestige of such an important profession, AS "Samruk-Kazyna Construction" traditionally awards the company's best employees, who can truly serve as a source of inspiration for young people.
"The example of the national project is a vivid illustration of how social and economic vectors can work together. Creating favorable conditions for the education of current and future generations contributes both to the formation of human capital, and certainly to the economic prosperity of the country in the future", - said the Director of the Department of Construction for the implementation of the National Project, The Honorable Builder Abdukerim Arshamov.
Indeed, the construction industry is of great importance for the public welfare and economic potential of a country, as well as a key factor in achieving national socio-economic goals. The construction sector has a huge multiplier effect. One job can create up to 8 additional jobs in related industries.
"I would like to emphasize that Kazakhstan's construction industry will continue to be a driver of economic growth, so it is crucial to invest in training and qualification of personnel, as well as the introduction of advanced technologies and construction methods. Indeed, it is the foundation of national development, stimulating all related industries, from building materials to services, and creating synergistic effects for the entire country. The national project is a vivid illustration of this, where the total domestic production rate varies from 69% to 81%. In addition, the comfortable schools will be fully equipped with furniture of Kazakh production", - noted the head of the monitoring group of JSC "Samruk-Kazyna Construction" Kuat Jilkibayev.
This year, Samruk-Kazyna Construction has completed the renovation of the hotel building for a multifunctional residential complex Beibarys in the city of Atyrau, and within the framework of the program of renovation of dilapidated and emergency housing, the company has signed 5 memorandums of cooperation with the Akimats (Shymkent, Almaty, Aktobe, Zhezkazgan and Konayev). There are also plans to build a school in the earthquake-affected region of Turkey in the near future, together with NAO "KazAID".
Over the past three years, Samruk-Kazyna Construction has built and commissioned more than 241,000 square meters of residential and non-residential space. The company employs more than 300 people who ensure effective planning and control of all stages of the construction process. Their skills and knowledge enable risks to be minimized and costs and resources to be optimized, which ultimately contributes to the successful development and modernization of the country's building infrastructure.
As always, the construction industry is being tested, feeling the effects of currency devaluations and disruptions in global logistics chains. To address these issues, Samruk-Kazyna Construction has set itself ambitious goals and, on the instructions of the head of state, intends to invest in the construction of factories that will import construction materials. In the long term, these plants will eliminate shortages in the market, avoid disruptions to production schedules and ensure that facilities are commissioned on time.
In order to further increase the availability of comfortable housing and the development of housing infrastructure, the Company has adopted corporate decisions on financing the construction of residential complexes in several regions of Kazakhstan. The projects will be financed by leveraging and using the Company's retained earnings, without obtaining funds from government programs.
It is important to note that the development of the construction industry is not possible without professional and competent human resources. It is an integral part of sustainable economic growth and social welfare.
