As part of the Comfortable School project, Samruk-Kazyna Construction decided to find out which school modern Kazakhstanis want to study and work in. We interviewed 2.5 thousand teachers and schoolchildren, asking them just one question: what should be in your ideal school?

DIGITAL ENVIRONMENT

Both teachers and students named computers, digital boards, and tablets as one of the main points of the modern school. In addition, the respondents emphasize that the digital environment should be in modern schools literally at every step. Libraries - digital, free access to the Internet with a speed of at least 100 Mbps, virtual classrooms, electronic textbooks, robotics classes, 3D printers. In general, not a school, but an office of Google or Yandex, but with a big change.

Separately, many respondents noted that it is very important that each school be able to translate lessons into an online format at any time, which means that classes should be equipped with high-quality webcams.

SAFETY

The problem of safety in schools has become especially urgent after the incident in Petropavlovsk. Now everyone understands that it is impossible to provide it only with video surveillance, an alarm button and an elderly watchman. Here are some interesting suggestions from students and educators on safety:

  • when entering the school, put on GPS bracelets for students;
  • bulletproof windows and doors;
  • automatic locking of doors in the event of an attack;
  • alarm system;
  • ACS system.

The latter allows you to control the entrance and exit to the school building using turnstiles and individual access control cards.

FURNITURE AND PERSONAL SPACE

Almost all wishes and proposals for furnishing schools come down to beauty and convenience. Instead of double desks and chairs made of chipboard, teachers and students want to see multi-colored individual desks made of eco-friendly material with adjustable height.

There were proposals to install "smart desks". This is an interactive transforming table with a wireless charger, a built-in tablet, an outlet and the ability to access the Internet. But the chairs in modern schools, according to most authors, should be orthopedic, with a rounded back. “Upholstered chairs made of durable material with support for a straight posture, comfortable and on wheels,” suggested one of the students. The authors justify their proposal by the fact that children spend most of their time in the classroom and because of uncomfortable desks and chairs they may have problems with the spine and posture.

Another dream of a modern student is a locker for personal belongings “like in American films”. In their essays, students often wrote about lockers with electronic locks that can be opened with a fingerprint or Face ID. Many note that personal lockers would save children from having to carry heavy backpacks every day.

Teachers, on the other hand, mostly want a comfortable methodical room, which is also a teacher's room. Some of the most popular wishes include an electronic timetable board, a kitchen area, a relaxation area, personal lockers for teachers and personal laptops or tablets.

ADDITIONAL EDUCATION AND LEISURE

As the students themselves note, in the issue of additional education it is important to give them the right to choose. A concert hall, a gallery and a theater should be in every school. Of the unusual, there were proposals to equip carpentry workshops, mini-bakeries and sewing workshops so that every schoolchild could do what he liked outside of class. Others believe that schools in the 21st century should have an observatory with a sliding ceiling and a telescope. Also interesting is the idea of creating relaxation rooms and a cinema hall where one could relax and “unload the brain” after a hard day at school.

This is what teachers and students think the school of the 21st century should be like. A total of 2515 essays were received, of which 650 were written by teachers, the rest by schoolchildren. Their wishes will be taken into account in the process of developing design and estimate documentation and designing future comfortable schools.
