Samruk-Kazyna Construction JSC summarised the results of the nationwide discussion of the pilot national project "Comfortable School".

A total of 6,132 people took part in the survey and actively supported the proposed architectural solutions, as well as the design and decoration of future educational institutions.

The survey aroused interest among representatives of almost all professional spheres. The main respondents were parents, representatives of the educational community, educators, designers, builders, architects and entrepreneurs. Temporarily unemployed, self-employed, pensioners, schoolchildren and students were not left out. Also representatives of IT sphere, engineers, financiers, economists, accountants, lawyers, political scientists, civil servants, electricians, journalists, military personnel, personnel recruitment specialists, public figures, industrialists, cynologists, railway workers, drivers, bakers, confectioners.

Among them, the most active were Kazakhstanis in the age category from 24 to 34 years old (30%) and from 35 to 44 years old (50%), which indicates the deep involvement of young people in Kazakhstan in improving the learning environment for children.

Almost 5,500 Kazakhstani citizens, which is 88 per cent of the total number of respondents, highly appreciated the architectural and visual solutions that were originally incorporated into the Comfortable School project. Residents of the country expressed their hope that the project would be approved soon and construction would begin.

"The opinion of every Kazakhstani is without exaggeration very important for the implementation of the project. We have seen enthusiastic support for our common work, which is now being carried out in order to cope with the problem of school shortage in the country as quickly as possible. At the same time, we have received a number of important additions, which have already been transferred to the work," said Maulen Aimanbetov.

Special attention has been paid to comfortable stay of pupils outside classes. In particular, it was decided to provide additional buffets in the co-working areas so that children could have time to eat during short breaks. Rest areas in the corridors are also planned so that children do not sit on window sills. The wishes for more places for changing clothes and storing personal belongings have been taken into account. In addition, the mechanism of children's pick-up (pockets) has been thought over with the possibility to drop the child off at the school without hindrance and at the same time to avoid traffic jams.

According to Maulen Aimanbetov, Chairman of the Board of Samruk-Kazyna Construction JSC, transparency and maximum public involvement in the process are important in the design and construction.

Most of the panellists requested that separate entrances be designed for junior and senior students to avoid crushes, queues and bullying. However, this was already provided for in the previously submitted drawings.

In terms of the visual component, interviewees noted the importance of maintaining a consistent colour design across all schools. In PPE and primary classrooms, the use of less bright, calm colours was suggested so that children are not distracted but still feel comfortable.

The survey participants noted the high importance of children's physical development and health, which begins during the school years. Respondents expressed their wishes for the organisation of sports grounds on school grounds, where children can practice various sports, play team games, learn more about traditional national activities and spend time outside school. Spacious stadiums and sports grounds are already included in the design of the new schools, which will allow schoolchildren to maintain a balance between mental and physical activity and improve their health for many years to come.

At the same time, the wishes to increase the area of sports halls were not taken into account, as the size of the previously designed halls is already twice as large as the standard norms. It was also decided not to include swimming pools because of the increased cost of projects and high maintenance costs.

Respondents also drew attention to the zoning of offices. In their opinion, it is necessary to equip separate areas for laboratory work in chemistry, physics and biology classrooms. During construction, special attention will be paid to the environmental friendliness of the materials used.
