In January 2025, in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, the dream of the residents of the “Yrker” microdistrict came true. Prior to that, the issue of school shortage remained a burning issue for the city dwellers. Pupils and teachers had to go to No. 69 lyceum, located in the city center, which led to overloading of the educational institution and transition to a three-shift mode. The problem was solved within the framework of the national project “Comfortable School”.

Zholaman Kokenayuly - history teacher of secondary school №33, Astana:

“I am very glad that my labor activity begins in the recently opened comfortable school №33. This is a space that unites education, innovation and art. The school has all modern technologies, STEM and robotics rooms. Our history room is equipped with 30 personal laptops. We use all modern achievements in the learning process to deepen the knowledge of students”

The level of equipment of the comfort school meets the latest requirements of the time. Compared to ordinary schools, there is four times more technology, such as computers, monoblocks, laptops and multimedia boards. 20% of the funds allocated for the construction of the facility have been allocated for this purpose, which has enabled the school to equip classrooms and accommodate advanced laboratories. Various machine tools and sewing machines have been installed in the technology classrooms. The main thing is that every student has the opportunity to work with these modern technologies.

Gulnur Mukusheva - deputy director for educational work of secondary school #33, Astana:

“Our school provides quality education, development of students in various directions and comfortable educational environment. Each student can develop his/her creative abilities. The educational process is carried out with the use of modern technologies. Various clubs and additional classes are provided for pupils. The main thing is that all this is free of charge.

The educational institution has four gyms, a dance hall, a TV studio, and co-working areas. The students also liked the innovations.

  • “Our school is very big and comfortable. There is a co-working area where we rest during breaks, repeat lessons or play games.”
  • “The canteen in the school is very spacious. During break time we come for refreshments. The chairs are comfortable and the design is beautiful.”
  • “I was impressed by the school's TV studio. It has a soundproof room, microphones to record podcasts, a camera to shoot video, lighting and even a green backdrop.

The features of comfort schools don't end there. The school is divided into three blocks for elementary, middle and high school children. Each zone is equipped with gyms, sanitary facilities, and lockers for personal belongings, depending on the age of the children. Inclusive and sensory rooms, ramps and elevators are provided for students with special needs.

Merey Bazarbayeva is a math teacher at secondary school #33, Astana:

“Before that, I worked at the M. Zhumabaev School-Gymnasium No. 65. With the opening of a comfortable school in the “Yrker” microdistrict, I transferred here. The school is very close to my home, and all conditions have been created in the educational institution. Each teacher is provided with individual computers and workstations. The classrooms have multimedia boards and high-speed Internet”.

Within the framework of the national project “Comfortable School” it is planned to build 23 schools of new format in the capital. Educational institutions will provide places for about 90 thousand pupils that will allow to solve the problem of lack of places in schools of Astana. At the moment the construction of 16 schools has been completed.
